AG-Mark Licence (Agricultural Products)

AUXILIARY
AGMARK is the official agricultural quality certification mark of the Government of India, formed from "AG" (Agriculture) and "MARK" (certification). Established under the Agricultural Produce (Grading and Marking) Act 1937, AGMARK is administered by the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare. Its primary purpose is to protect consumers from adulterated agricultural products and to safeguard farmers and growers from commercial exploitation.AGMARK covers approximately 222 agricultural commodities including edible vegetable oils, pulses, cereals, spices, fruits, vegetables, honey, beeswax, and semi-processed goods. Commodities are graded into quality categories such as Ordinary, Fair, Good, and Special, based on chemical composition, physical characteristics, and purity levels. AGMARK certification is voluntary for most commodities; however, edible vegetable oils and fat spreads must carry AGMARK grading to comply with FSSAI Regulations 2006, making it effectively mandatory for these categories. The certification process involves: preparing documentation and paying application fees based on commodity type; demonstrating adequate infrastructure including access to a recognised or in-house grading laboratory; end-product analysis by an authorised chemist prior to packaging; and ongoing field inspections by DMI officers who verify compliance of packed products against market samples. The Certificate of Authorization is issued by the relevant DMI regional office.Timeline & ValidityVerification and processing period: 30–60 working daysLicence validity: 5 years (renewal application must be submitted 3 months before expiry)
